How to export a Gemini conversation to Docs, Markdown or PDF

Short answer: Gemini exports one response at a time, to Google Docs, Gmail or Sheets, from the Share & export menu under each reply. Your whole history comes out through Google Takeout as activity data. For one full conversation as a file, print it to PDF or use an extension that saves it as Markdown or JSON.

Gemini is built into Google's apps, so its export options point at them: a reply goes to a doc, a table goes to a sheet. That works for one answer. It does not give you the conversation, your questions included, as one file.

The built-in options

Export to Docs. Below a response, click Share & export, then Export to Docs. It saves that one response as a new doc in Google Drive. Draft in Gmail works the same way.
Export to Sheets. A response that contains a table has an Export to Sheets button at the table's bottom right. Tables with images cannot be exported.
Export code. Python can go to Google Colab, and code to Replit, from the same menu. Neither is available on every work or school account.
Share a link. Creates a public page of the conversation. Anyone with the link can read it, and it is not a file you keep.
Google Takeout. Exports your Gemini Apps activity with the rest of your Google data, and it arrives later as a download. It only contains what Gemini Apps Activity kept: if that setting was off, there is nothing to export.
Print to PDF. Ctrl+P or Cmd+P, then Save as PDF. Fine for short chats; long ones print poorly.

Why one response at a time falls short

Exporting reply by reply loses your side of the conversation, and with it the reason each answer says what it says. A long Gemini chat is also loaded in parts as you scroll, so printing it catches only what the page has loaded. Keeping answers intact.
